Extended Library Service Hours 📖
The Grant R. Brimhall Library in Thousand Oaks is extending its service hours by sixteen hours per week through Self-Service Access. Patrons aged 18 and above with a valid library card can access the library's lobby from 8 am to 10 am, Monday through Saturday, and 8 am to 12 pm on Sundays. This service includes access to Wi-Fi, wireless printing, and book holds. To get started, patrons need to complete an online orientation and sign a Self-Service Access agreement in person. More info
Free Landfill Day ♻️
Thousand Oaks is hosting a Free Landfill and Recycling Day on June 15, 2024, from 8 am to 2 pm at the Calabasas Landfill. This event allows residents to dispose of excess trash, green waste, concrete, and bulky items at no cost. Proof of residency is required, and each resident can bring up to two loads. Certain items, including hazardous materials and electronic waste, are not accepted. Attendees should be prepared for wait times and must tarp their loads. More info
Free Bus Fare Day (June 17) 🚌
June 17th is Dump the Pump day in Ventura County. Anyone can ride any bus service for free within Ventura County. See the Ventura County Transportation Committee (VCTS) website for routes, schedules, and more information.
🎗️ Elder Abuse Awareness Day
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed on June 15 to raise awareness about the abuse and neglect of older persons. According to the National Council on Aging, about one in 10 Americans aged 60+ have experienced elder abuse, with financial abuse being the most reported type. Ventura County's Adult Protective Services received over 6,000 referrals in 2023. The day emphasizes the need to recognize signs of abuse, such as physical injuries, emotional changes, and financial irregularities, and encourages community involvement to protect and support elders. Mirage: Visions of Fleetwood Mac 🎵
Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 18th at 3pm. This live entertainment event is presented by the Goebel Senior Center Commission and takes place at the Goebel Adult Community Center. ZZ Top 🎸
ZZ Top is set to perform at the Fred Kavli Theater on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 7:30 pm. Single tickets are on sale Friday, June 14 at 10am. 🛑 Senior Scam of the Week
Television Streaming Service Scam
Summary
A senior was scammed out of $12,000 after trying to resolve billing issues with a television streaming service. A man posing as a company representative convinced her to grant access to her computer and later tricked her into sending $12,000 cash, claiming a deposit mistake.
Scam Design
The scam involved the perpetrator pretending to be a customer service representative. He gained the victim’s trust, accessed her computer, transferred funds between her accounts, and then convinced her to send cash to correct a supposed error.
